Paraneoplastic Vitelliform Retinopathy in Metastatic Cutaneous Melanoma: A Case Series

چکیده
Paraneoplastic vitelliform retinopathy is a rare condition associated with metastatic melanoma. Like melanomaassociated retinopathy (MAR), it can cause nyctalopia and progressive vision loss; however, unlike MAR, the fundus shows multifocal, yellow-orange vitelliform lesions beneath the neurosensory retina and at the level of the retinal pigment epithelium, as well as areas of subretinal fluid in the macula. The treatment of paraneoplastic vitelliform retinopathy is aimed at the underlying metastatic melanoma but unfortunately has a poor prognosis, with most patients succumbing to their disease. We report two cases of paraneoplastic vitelliform retinopathy in patients with metastatic cutaneous melanoma.

performed. Previous cases of vitelliform retinopathy have had some clinical findings consistent with MAR, while others have not. None of these reports had clinical evidence of choroidal involvement. The vitelliform lesions have been postulated to represent a new paraneoplastic clinical manifestation. The pathologic results in this case argue against a paraneoplastic entity but may suggest a loc...

BACKGROUND Paraneoplastic retinopathy is caused by the cross-reaction of neoplasm-directed autoantibodies against retinal antigens and results in retinal damage. Paraneoplastic vitelliform retinopathy, a presumed paraneoplastic retinopathy with features of atypical melanoma-associated retinopathy, has recently been reported in patients with metastatic melanoma. Ocular ultrastructure and its aut...

INTRODUCTION Because of the advent of monoclonal antibodies in the treatment of metastatic melanoma, patients with this disease are surviving longer. Early recognition of the disease has therefore become even more important. CASE REPORT We present a patient with vitelliform maculopathy, a paraneoplastic retinal maculopathy that is under-recognized. Clinically the retinal findings of serous de...

8q22. The investigators attributed the responsible area of glaucoma to 8q22, not 9p23, because GLC1D maps to 8q22. That case also showed retained testis and hydronephrosis, similar to our patient. Interestingly, 2 previously reported cases of monosomy 9p24-pter (near the 9p23 locus) manifested developmental glaucoma. Therefore, partial monosomy 9p might be causative for developmental glaucoma. ...
